  • Photo/Video DIY Thread

Well I really want to get some equipment for my photo/video needs. BUT its all so damn expensive. So what I was thinking here is that we can share DIY's on how we made Rigs/Dollys/Shoulder Mounts/Lighting/etc.

Personally I really want to make a rig and a dolly/slider for some video work, if anyone has any good DIY's for either of those it would be awesome.

    Thanks!

I used to have a DIY I did on the dolly I built, but the link has been lost

Here are some I have found:

(This one was incredibly difficult to build, and took some time)

    http://steadycam.org/
(Built this, and it works great...for what it is)

However, I am saving my dollars for this:

    Worth the money.

I know it may be hard to to as I was in the same position, before I got my gear, but it'd be sooooo worth it to save up for a Merlin instead of that Glidecam unit. That or a Blackbird. I've used that Glidcam one at school and balancing it is just so jankity, it took us forever to get it right for a Z1u and then a student dropped it and broke the LCD so we had to re-balance it for the HVX200 and it took forever yet again lol. The Merlin system is just loads better.

Yo, Prodigee check out indislider minis, they are much more affordable, and pretty decent sliders. That ZaZa thing is almost as expensive as my Kessler Pocket Dolly was and has half the features, stay away from that thing.

I'll try to find the DIY my friend used for his Dolly in the meantime.

2 different camera handles, they are a little ghetto but did the trick. the big silver one is a wall mount for a ladder rack and the small brown one is a coffee pot handle.

        homemade camera dolly.

suction cup mount for small camera

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I'm looking at the Hague MMC mini now, seems to yield good results for the weight bracket I am in.

AWESOME video on building your own skater dolly.. gonna do this pretty soon.

I recently built a skater dolly, and I thought I'd share the process with everyone. They're rather easy and inexpensive to make.
