  • Broke my lens...

I somehow broke my canon kit lens (18-55mm) and don't know what I should replace it with.

What do you think? Just find another one used or replace it with something else? I've been thinking about getting a canon 50mm f/1.4. Should I just get it to replace the old kit lens? I know they have a lot of differences, but are they even comparable? I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff.

      You buyin'?

I don't want to spend more than $400, at the most. So that kind of limits me.

You can probably get a used 28-135mm for around $400. I say do that.

        EDIT:

I'll check it out at the store tomorrow. I just found a brand new one in the box for $275 on CL.

Anybody try the 18-135mm out? I found one on CL as well. From what I've read, it seems like it would make for a better general walk around lens, which is what I'm looking for.

            Any thoughts?

Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 or Tamron 24-70 f/2.8. Those would be my choices for under $500.

It's going on a XTI if that makes a difference.

I broke my 18-55 like 6 months ago and still haven't gotten around picking up a replacement for it lol. I must say that it sucks having only a 10-20 and a 50mm 1.8 to shoot with

Tell me about it! The only lens I've had since around Christmas has been a cheap 70-300.

I like my 70-300. But if that's all I had I'd shoot myself.

I'd much rather have 2 lenses a ultra wide and a wide than a 70-300 I would kill myself if thats all I had.

I was considering the Tamron until I looked at the reviews a few days ago. About 3-4 out of 10 reviews said that it is not sharp or will not focus properly. It seems to be hit or miss when ordering one online, and they are about $100 more at my local camera shop.

It's a shame, the people who get a good one seem to love them!
