  • school me on cameras. looking to upgrade

hey guys im kinda wanting to get a little more into photography and am looking for some advice. possibly getting a camera for my birthday

the camera i am used to using is my dad's nikon d80 and i really like it. i have also used my gf's d40. im looking around and it seems the d70 is kinda what im looking for. i dont really wanna spend anymore that $450-$475 on a new or used camera.

only reason i have mentioned the d70 is because i guess im used to shooting with nikons but if you have other suggestions from another company im also interested in learning more about them!

    all help is appreciated!
    TiA!

I dont know much about new nikon bodies but I do love my D70. So many lens options to choose from since all nikon lenses will fit it. It also has the in-camera motor to allow you to use older autofocus lenses that dont have a built in motor. I've had the camera for a number of years and been extremely happy with it. I'd say go for it!

I've been using a Nikon D50 (D70's little brother) for the past four years. Love it to death. The Xt/Xs series from Canon is good as well. I've also seen some amazing shots from Pentax/Olympus & other makes of cameras...but for system expansion and options Canon & Nikon are probably the two biggest/best.

said it before, ill say it again. start out with the best you can. if that means saving for a little longer, do it.
you may not USE the camera to its potential, but it will take you LONGER to outgrow it.

If you go with Nikon just make sure you get one of the bodies with the auto-focus motor built in.
