  • I just got featured on Petrolicious!

Well it was a bit sooner than I thought but my car's feature has come out on petrolicious.com:

Not a frame scrapper by any means but I would love some feedback on the photography. Some of you may have seen the pics in my intro thread. **** it or love it I wanna hear it! Most of these pics are minimally post-edited so any critiques on editing I could/should do would be very welcome. Lemme know what you think! Just trying to get better here...

Congrats! I would say maybe work a little bit on the composition? On the first few shots they seem to have the car right in the middle of the shot. The rule of thirds tend to work well for me. The semi last photo for example is my favorite out of the set and it takes advantage of that rule. The one above it too. You did a nice job don't get me wrong! Also, most shots are from a low level which is good for cars but some variety would be welcomed. Standing up close to it and catching some of the lines of the body with a wide aperture perhaps also? Even throw a little angle on the camera, try things out! Lastly another trick that works well for me it try picturing the shot without the car in the way, see only the background. If you have a nice background it really compliments the car like the bridge shot which is good. Difficult shooting conditions with the bright sun and dark shadows so props!

Man those are all great suggestions, definitely going to try and keep them in mind for my next shoot. I like the tip about imagining the shot without the car a lot. Backgrounds are so often overlooked. I tried to do nice stuff with the environment but still need to work on it. The sun and shadows did not help, I really need to get to this spot early in the morning since the sun comes from over that mountain range from the east so I think it would look a lot better.

I'm thinking my next shoot will be over in Virginia City though which is an old goldrush/gambling ghost town nearby so hopefully gonna find some cool backdrops to play with. Cemetaries and saloons and whatnot. I'll def post some of those shots when I do, would love your feedback again.

Thanks a ton for the suggestions, they help a lot!
