  • Tell me how you set up shoots

I'm pretty new to photography when it comes to cars but I was wondering how to get out there and meet new people with cars that they put time and love into and shooting their cars. If you guys could tell me how you do this I'd really appreciate it, and sorry for sounding dumb if I do.

I personally shoot a lot of friends cars but my friends have show winning cars in the northeast of england and know a lot of others so they normally end up being asked by their friends who shot the car then they get in touch. Or alternatively car forums is a good place. I charge per shoot now though as im receiving a lot of people asking for shoots rather than me asking them as i previously did. Get yourself along to local smaller meets too, once you know a few people local you will have others approaching you as long as your quality is good enough

to me a shoot is just all about having fun with it, like you might be cruising with your friends then you roll up and a cool ass old building or an old crumpling barn and you just decided to pull over and take shots of your rides with that cool old building in the backround

Since your in Maryland.. Just go to some meets here, take photos while there and get to know the owners of the cars. Once you shoot one persons car and do a good job, others will see and want to do the same.

Browse through people's work on Flickr for example.

You'll find a lot of images have EXIF data that is shown by Flickr. Should give you a good starting idea on what sort of settings you should be playing around with.

The easiest way however is as said above, go to meets and just shoot. The more you do the more you'll learn yourself what you like and what you don't.

Also bear in mind, don't try and copy one person's style wholeheartedly, do take inspiration though.

Exif data is only useful assuming the photographer doesn't edit their pictures.
