Resizing woes

Hello all, I don't have a camera and most of my pics come from my iphone. And I've had tons of trouble with resizing pics to work on forums. Does anyone have any tips or procedures to make my life easier? lol My signature for instance, it wouldn't upload until I made it that size but I can see everyone else has much larger signature pics

If you upload photos to flickr you can change the image size in the embed code or whatever it's called :P

I've tried that on photobucket but not flickr. Is there a difference? I would prefer flickr but my work has one blocked and not the other haha
