  • Help with new Lens

I have a Canon 650D and I want to buy a Wide Angle for mostly indoor shooting.

I need help choosing as I'm fairly new at this and I don't want to spend 700+ and find out it isn't what I needed.

Are you looking for a prime (fixed) lens? Or zoom? If zoom, do you have an idea on what focal length range you are looking for?

Whatever you get, a fixed aperture is always best. Preferably one that can be fixed pretty wide open.

The 10-22 is a fantastic lens. On a crop body it's the only wide angle I'd recommend.

For wide angle lenses, the aperture is almost irrelevant.

              I love my Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 and I got it for $500.

I like my kit lens, which is 18-55, but the 35mm prime is in my sights

i would personally go with a prime (fixed) lens. at wide focal lengths, they are way sharper than their zoom counterparts.

for budget lenses, 28mm f1.8 or 35 f2 would be a good place to start looking. a used sigma 35 f1.4 would be good too, if you're willing to spend more and want that creamy bokeh.

                    I'd hardly consider a 35 on a crop body a wide angle.

OP 10-22 is definitely your best bet here.

I have a Canon 10-22mm on a 550D. It's a great lens, focuses quick and the distortion isn't even that bad. I use the lens correction in Lightroom, which helps a bit.

I've used it for Motorsport, skateboarding, landscapes, portraits...no complaints so far!

I love my Tokina 11-16. The 2.8 is very nice! It is a very sharp lens and I got mine for $425 used. But the canon 10-22 is fantastic also.

i don't recommend the 35 f2, AF was really slow and noisy, bokeh was nice and it was fairly wide, I kind of want to try the 28 1.8 one day.
