  • Canon T2i Help

Quick question.. I have a Canon Rebel T2i and I was wondering what to change to be able to take a rolling shot. Can't seem to figure out the right settings. Help?

Set it to Tv and change the shutter speed according to speed.

For example if you're rolling at 60 mph I usually use 1/60th or slower depending on the desired effect.

Exactly. I use this exact method, allow the camera to determine the aperture and just set the shutter speed to 1/Speed (speed being whatever MPH you're traveling at) try not to go lower than 1/60 if possible, shooting rollers slower than that will often make it a lot harder to truly get a crisp picture. Highway rollers are going to be your best bet, rather than slow speed neighborhood roads.

      Examples of my work

Both were taken around 55-60 mph. The more spokes on the wheels the easier it is to get a full blur and allows you to shoot at a faster speed. If the wheel has fewer spokes you may have to speed up or slow down your shutter speed a bit more than 1/Speed just to get the full blur so you cant see specific spokes.

I tend to find a good road, and just shoot continuous for 5 or so seconds, review what I got, then do it again. That will allow you to have multiple pictures where a sign is in the background in one, but not in the next, just in-case something in the background of the picture looks crappy, the next photo should have it moved out of the way or out of frame because you shot over a few seconds.

      Hope that helps!
