  • Beginner DSLR choice

Hey everyone At the moment, i have a choice of getting a few cameras from some friends. The first is a Nikon D40 with a 55-200mm nikkor lens for $320, The second is Canon XSi with a 58mm telephoto lens, 58mm wide angle lens and a Canon's EF-S 18-55mm.That one would be for $300.

I really want to get into photography. Even though i am a beginner, i want to have the best setup for both photos and some video. I also am thinking about saving and just getting a Canon T2i, T3i, or a Nikon D3100. All input is welcome. Thanks guys, ive seen some amazing photo work on here.

If you're really interested in doing video, I'd say just save up for the T2i. They've been on the market for a while now so you could probably find a used body or kit for a decent price.

Canon actually has refurbished kits for $559.99.

t2i or t3i having the video option is fun.

I agree with everyone else...I have a t2i, it's a great camera, I find the functionality much better than the nikons but that is just personal preference
