Its currently 1930hrs and as I sit in the back of the trusty tow vehicle that is Walton Smith’s BMW I can finally spare a moment to reflect on what has been a truly awe-inspiring weekend. A special thanks has to go to Jap Performance Parts and Netherlands Drift for inviting us to cover what was an amazing spectacle of machine and men. The cars taking part ranged from small-scale go-karts to full-blown fire breathing F1 cars, and of course who can forget – JPP’s Hybrid Subaru.

The event, set in the streets of Rotterdam is hosted by Bavaria Beer which means free beer in the VIP enclosures – yes please! The sky scrapers that towered above the road offered a fantastic listening experience that made your lungs rattle as the F1 cars bounced of their limiters.

The journey to Rotterdam started incredibly early on Saturday morning for the Togethia gabble, 0300hrs to be exact. A quick stop over to pick up another cameraman and we were on our way to Crawley to meet up with Sajid and Walton at JPP”s head office.

Walton was running a little late with the tow car and trailer so it gave me a good opportunity to snap the Hybrid looking all shiny and sporting a new front bumper after the miss haps at Awesomefest.

The JPP Impreza sporting some fresh new Togethia stickers

The quick hop to Dover went with out incident and in no time at all we were being loaded onto the cross channel ferry.

Sajid contemplating the epic journey that lies ahead

Walton catching forty winks before the long slog to Rotterdam and his weekend of heavy drifting!

Do you ever get the feeling your being followed?

Time for a brief stop for some crucial supplies

Ice cream time, about half way to Rotterdam

Many thanks to Walton for taking on driving duties for the weekend – including the minor task of drifting on the Sunday.

The trailered Subaru attracted plenty of attention, I lost count at the amount of passengers with their camera phones out as they passed

Getting close to our destination now…

Driving through the streets of Rotterdam revealed some very interesting and photogenic architecture

Dirk of NL Drift Series showing Saj and Walton where to put the Subaru

Corvette Safety car parked outside the hotel in the evening, lets hope there aren’t to many corners on the track

Saj and Peter deciding where to eat – it had been a long day and curry was at the top of our agenda

This square would be turned into the main arena by tomorrow morning, work starting at 2am local time

An early start on Sunday was required in preparation for the main event, the view out of our hotel room wasn’t too shabby either.

Sajid posing for a photo with two local police man who took an interest in the hybrid Subaru

British stunt driver, Terry Grant did his best to wow the crowds with his spectacular driving antics in his modified legends racer

Unfortunately the Dutch weather did not suit Walton’s style of driving, thankfully it was only a passing shower

Ferrari did their best to show off by bringing along some serious machinery

Tesla experimenting with some different charging circuit, some how I don’t think series would have worked that well

The colours of the JPP Subaru and Atomic Energy drink working well on the Drift NL stand

The event was full of F1 celebrities, Bert Mylander who drives the F1 safety car made a brief appearance!

A 458GT making its way to the start finish straight en route to show the public of Rotterdam what they do best

Track action saw plenty of impressive cars take to the streets to impress the thousands that had lines the streets

This chap happens to be quite a big thing in Holland

Sam Bird, Mercedes Test Driver, leaving the paddock area and heading out to thrill the crowds

JPP kindly fabricated a camera rig that allowed us to attach one of our camera’s to it, footage to come soon!

Access to the media pens around the main arena was nigh on impossible once the event had started so we had to settle for a 10th floor hotel room in the local Hilton, thanks Hilton! Judging by the crowds reaction it was by far the most popular session, hopefully next year the organisers will look at devoting more than 15 minutes to the drifters.
