5# most important things of car-photography

Hi guys.

I am kinda new to car-photography, actually i shoot my first session yesteday :

Before i used to do some sport photography, so moving objects is not really new to me. What i would like to know though, what is the 5 most important things about taking pictures of cars? angles, points, venues etc. Most regarding the "session" mode, where everything is setup.

Tell me what you have learned doing this the past months, years, perhaps decades. To make it more easy maybe give some positive/negative feedback on the pictures that ive taken.

Btw. i am just an amatour doing it for the sake of fun, freebie naturally.

Im also an amateur, but the biggest thing I look for in car photography is shadow placement. I wish I had some example pictures to show/help me descibe myself a little better. But I always use an off-shoe flash when I shoot cars to make sure that there is no shadow "in-front" of the car. Black cars especially like the flash, that way door handles, wheels/tires, mirrors, etc "pop" more in the picture.

Here is a picture I took a number of years ago of my old truck, notice how the shadow is "in front" of the vehicle. This would have been a perfect time to have an off-shoe flash pointed at the passenger side of the vehicle.

I completely disagree with the use of a fill light in that situation. If you are really concerned about that very slight shadow. Shoot the car from the other side.

Natural light > artificial.
