Camera Suggestions/Advice

So I have only ever taken photos with my mom's Nikon D80 and couple different point and shoot cameras over the years. Well I am now ready to get a camera to call my own. I was wondering what you guys might suggest to a beginning photographer and aspiring videographer.

Price range: 500-800
HD Movie Mode

So far I really like the Nikon D3100

Canon hands down. I have the 1000D and am upgrading to the T2i/550D as soon as I can afford it.

What they said. The Rebel is a perfect camera to start off with. I got a Rebel Xs to start off with and it worked great, and the T2i has video like Kielan said, it's perfect.
