Not to be a dick but why don't you buy another D40?

Or are you looking to shift brands?

What about the D90 then? My friend shoots with one, and gets some very, very good images from it. The D40 is a little outdated now, but it's whatever feels better

Don't buy another D40, you'll limit yourself to the amount of lenses available for your body. Get a 3100 or something along those lines.

              i have a 3100

the 18-55 kit lens is pretty dope as a universal do everything you want lens. it doesnt have a focus motor so AF lenses without built in motors will only work as manual lenses. i like shooting in manual with those particular kind of lenses anyway so i dont care.

              <3 my 3100

                .
Not tryin' to threadjack .... ... but... .. I notice with my 18-55mm lens I am ALWAYS shooting at 18mm ,,,, , mostly automotive photography

                ... .. . I'm using a $425 Sony A330 DSLR ..... . . . what would be a better lens for shooting cars???..... I always feel like I need to step back 3 feet farther than I want to

Why would you always be shooting at 18mm back up, use the range of the lens, distortion has very limited use, and the effect is annoying as hell 98% of the time.

And that's because you shoot at 18 all the time, back up. MOVE YOUR FEET, that's one of the most important parts of photography.

                    .
Example: .. .. taking pictures of my engine bay... .. .. . if I want a pic looking down at the engine bay I would need a 10ft ladder...... . or taking pics in a confined car-port

.... it's hard to get the whole car in the shot without going all the way to 18mm,, ,,, and anything over 30mm just looks blurry and pixeled without a tripod

What the hell are you doing that over 30mm its blurry? Unless your lens is shot, there is no reason for that.

Don't shoot in a confined space if you have the choice, (aka drive somewhere with more room), and for engine bay shots yeah, you're actually going to need a ladder, you can't just bullshit half the stuff and hope to get great results. Move around, and actually try to do something rather than being lazy.

And for the love of fuck, type like a normal person, holy christ,.
