Yeah i have been reading some good reviews about Lightroom 3 but no-one seems to explain why..

Even though i'm not a pro, i don't want to invest my money wrong.

        This.

It's pretty easy to use, everything is well layed out. Very effective too !

I have Photoshop too, but as you say, it's tricky to learn.

Bridge CS4. Use it at my course, very easy to use, plug camera in and you can import straight into the program. You can also make minor changes for editing purposes in Bridge's Camera RAW Processor, which I have been using and it is simple to use, a bunch of sliders for different tools. Also includes curves, etc.

I have heard great things about Lightroom 3, easy to use, etc. But I've been taught to use Bridge CS4 and RAW Processor, hence I use that. Photoshop has WAY too many tools and functions to even think about, main things you would need to know would be, quick masking, selection tools, colour replacements, just the small things. Which is like 5% of what Photoshop is capable of, not worth it IMO.

Lightroom is bridge and RAW editor + more, all it can't really do is the graphic design stuff.. LR3 is pretty much all you need.

PS has its uses as well don't get me wrong, but you won't need it until later on down the road.

Yeah, and for a photographer you won't really even need the graphic design element that Photoshop offers. Unless you are doing advertising photography and are editing your own work?

I wouldn't say that, PS definitely has useful features, that you can't do in lightroom. But if you're just starting out LR3 will definitely be your best bet.

kielan/5D.. thank you for your insights I download the Trail Version at work downloading LR3 on my laptop now.. Didn't have a chance to use it, but if Kielan is right i may just end up picking it up.. ..

Yeah PS is nice and all, i think it's just to much for me right now.. I want to concentrate for on Photography than editing, even though this is just a hobby not my primary job, but LR3 seems like its easy to use and has tools need to get the Job done..

I have been using Picesa for a while now, just need more advancing tools..

I've had Lightroom for a while now and i'm still learning how to use it lol.

Without Lightroom, most of my pictures would look horrible

if u can get ur hands on photoshop do it, then get urself on google and get some noob tutorials, that's the easiest way to learn photoshop, switch it up with the tutorials, do all kinds of them, u will get the hang of most of the tools that way... u will notice after a few weeks u start mixing the tools and effects u learn from different tutorials in no time

You can get a product key online and enter it where it asks for serial number that way you dont have to pay for the ful version.

i'd say, go for photoshop..it basically has bridge and lightroom in it, and you get all the extra stuff, you may need later when you dig into post processing later on.

and I strongly reccomend to get training videos from lynda.com -- they have a fantastic video for handling 'camera raw' (it's basically LR within PS), and also a video called 'Photoshop for photographers' or something like that. and of course they also have some videos for LR.

                            hope this helps

Camera raw, isn't anywhere near as in depth as LR.
