    SW,
first off, let me start by saying this is one of the illest forums on the net. by far. i have yet to contribute to the site... but that will all change soon. im looking to purchase a cheap(er) old(er) dslr once the holiday wynds down a bit. holiday drivers are absolute nutcases. ive shot pretty much only with an old olympus om-2000 film camera. nothing extraordinary. and of course, i have some friends who own some nikons/such.
I'm looking for a decent canon or nikon body. lenses dont really matter at the moment, as this is an expensive hobby just as stance/auto in general are, and i wont be affording much aside from the kit lense. i know of the canon rebel series, and nikons infamous d90. i guess im just looking for some personal insight on narrowing down my decisions, as there are many of different options. thanks in advance...

it's hard to go wrong with any of the canons or nikons. i shoot with a D40 (relatively cheap body) and almost always use my 50mm 1.8 lense (cheap lense). once you start experimenting, you'll figure out what works/doesn't and good shots will follow.

With a $150-200 budget you can't really be too picky. If I were you I would keep saving. You could possibly find an older Canon Rebel XT or Nikon D50.... but it'll probably have a massive shutter count and be pretty banged up. Don't get anything older than that.

              I wouldn't shop for a DSLR with a $200 budget, I'd wait,

I spent $500 on my used D70, and I'm happy as a clam with that. But right now, I think the best entry-level bang for the buck is the D3100.

Buy whatever brand your friends have so you can borrow their gear, lol
