Hey Halston, can you post a pic of what you use to take these shots?

How close do you have to get to them?

Yes. 1 sec. Couple of inches away.

        *edit*

        Canon 40D - Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 - Canon EF 2x Tele-Convertor(Don't always use this) - Kenko Extension Tubes(Normally 32mm of tubes) - Canon 430ex + Sto-Fen OmniBounce

It is a "Lynx Spider". It was sitting on my A/C Unit when I was walking the dogs.

The only bug I have shot that could fly is the fly itself and the grasshopper. They did move around but assuming you move in slow they will mostly just look and wait for you to make a move.

There are some bees that use the flowers in my backyard and I haven't been able to capture a photo of those yet.

You would be surprised at how close you can get and the bugs don't move

I do too. It 100mm does 1:1 magnification so what you see is what you get which is nice. Just don't get that super zoomed in macro. The tube shot would be better but I missed the focal point(the eyes) ever so slightly.

This bug is about the size of the nail on my pinkie finger... he was on my grill cover and you can see the detail...
