Messing around with light painting :)

its not a program, its like long exposure in a very dark environment, then using a soft light source to illuminate the objects

I got a EOS XS for Christmas, used to goof around with this a little, in combination with my constant obsession with stop motion. But....ya...how the hell did you do this? You shine the light on the object rather then at the lens? It looks so diffused.

pretty much open the shutter (set cam to bulb mode) then run around the object with a soft light and light it up.. thats it lol.

you need a lens with a low f stop tho.. i tried it with my 15-85mm kit lens, (3.8f) which didnt work so well. You need like 2.8f or so..

It can be done with any lens, just need to keep the shutter open longer if the F. is higher..

you have a picture of an example of what "soft light" is? like and led light would work?

Any light form can be used, but it needs to be dispersed somehow otherwise you will see sharp reflections of the light source.

We used a torch and a cotton singlet over it to 'soften' the 'harshness' of the light.
