  • So I picked up some new gear...

I havent really posted up much in the way of photography.. I havent really taken many photos of late, work has been taking up majority of my life and other current events have held me back.

So I have a Canon 400D, nothing special, but it has served me well over the last 4 ish years... It came with the 2 standard lenses:

    - efs 18-55mm f.3.5-5.6
    - ef 75-300mm f.4-5.6

    And I recently purchases an:

    - ef 50mm f.1.8

Due to some encouragement from a mate. I have fallen in love with it, but I also purchased a $25 wide angle attatchment to fit a 58mm lense. Cheap, overnight parts from china

So Today I snapped a few random quickies.. Some arent exactly crisp, a few are blured cause I was just snapping with settings from the other day, But to hell with $800 wideangle lenses... I Love photography, but I would rather buy a set of rare as fk wheels from Japan then spend my money on more lenses Dont shoot me for it.

link to wide angle attachment you bought? I have a 10-22, but I wouldn't mind getting it for my 18-55 for times I want to travel light and don't want to have my expensive stuff on me lol

Pics look good though, and I love your Civic!!

Those are fun on a budget. Just be careful of the vignetting, corner softness, and bad flare they tend to exhibit.

For sure.. It's just a lense to play around a bit with.. I really dont like the way the standard 18-55 shoots pictures... To me there is something way to bland about them. Im in love with the nifty 50, and have some nice shots from the last weekend with it..

As you may have noticed I dont tend to do much post editing, these shots have nothing more then a touch up in the white balance. Most of my edits consist of this, a touch of vignette and maybe some clarity/saturation tweaks. A lot of photographers (generally from around here in aus) tend to murder pictures with contrast and sharpening/high pass. I really dont like the whole "make a photo look fake" look... I try to leave pics as they are a) cause I really dont like overprocessing and b) cause I havent spent enough time reading/learning how to process photos properly as you guys do... As much as I would love to enroll in a course, I really dont have the time, So playing around it is for me

Yeah, trying new things is a great way to learn - I never had any formal photography/editing training.

I always prefer to shoot with prime lenses. If you enjoy the 50mm 1.8 you should give the Sigma 30mm 1.4 and the Canon 85mm 1.8 a try - both are budget friendly (around $400/ea I believe) and super fun. Just be careful where you buy third party lenses like Sigma, you always want to be able to return them if you end up with a soft copy.

That sucks - keep an eye out for used stuff, too.

When I first started and was broke (hell, I'm broker now) I found an adapter for old screw mount Pentax lenses and would go to flea markets to find old junk gear. It was fun because I could get a box full of vintage junk for $15 and find a lens or two I could use. You could only manual focus them and some of them weren't -that- great but it was fun to play around with
