  • VW guys: quick ?

BITD i had a couple of dubs and the reliability was pretty shoddy at best. The electrics were a big problem and other things would go out with regularity. My ? now is how are they? Do they still drive you nuts with this stuff? I was looking at a mkv gti and it will be a daily i just dont want reliability issues. Im coming from many faithful years of owning nissans/infinitis so any comments, advice is appreciated
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left

Nothing has gone wrong with my MKV in my 51k miles (those things that DID go wrong were my fault, nothing to do with the car.)

MKV fsi motors need to have the cam followers replaced regularly. they fall to pieces. also if you chip tune it you will need to upgrade the DV and fuel pump.

yes. shit will go wrong. i own a mkv, and fuck once passed 35k who knows what the next problem will be with this car. My sunroof sometimes randomly opens. When i start the car i lose power in my doors till about 10-15 seconds than it comes back. My DSG has blown, COMPLETELY 3 times!!! VW does fully replace it every time with no costs but its annoying. I love VWs and its just part of the nature. All sorts of shit starts to rattle to. CEL's are almost normal. Wouldnt say dont get one, the vw family and the friends you make with owning one 100% make up for the BS.

I'm personally not a big fan of the 2.0t motor's, they tend to burn oil on the regular with many other problems. Other then that VW has never really been good at making any kind of latch as they dont tend to last. But still solid cars, I would buy a mk4 personally, great cars, and pretty cheap to fix.

Very helpful info guys. Thank you. I still havent decided yet was shopping around this weekend. Im coming from my rock solid nissan/infinitis. I might just buy another nissan. The 350s have came down drasticaly. Im not silly enough to buy new and take the depreciation hit on anything. I want a hatch really bad but im not wanting headaches either. Might just pick up a old eg or ef hatch again and keep driving my g20.
