The V12s were needlessly complicated, because they essentially sandwiched 2 inline 6s. So there are 2 complete ignition systems. If one side goes bad, it all goes bad. If you're not mechanically inclined they will run you into the ground.

Oh and the V12 in the 8s shares absolutely nothing with the McLaren F1s motor.

Anyway, this thread is about looks, and like I said earlier they do nothing for me.

Ive owned a few 8 series BMWs ...So I talk from actual knowlege about the cars, not from reading "stuff" on the interweb...you can always tell those types when this car is mentioned because they all say the same stuff

Nikasil problem was with all of the BMW 8cylinders within a short time span...plus, you're cheatin yourself if you dont opt for the V12 anyway

If you purchase a 100k car, they dont expect you to be wrenching on the thing. That makes as much sense as complaining about maintenance cost on a NASA space shuttle that u got on the cheap in a walmart parking lot.

Just like any high end car: Ferrari, Lambo, Aston,Etc,Etc....Purchasing the car itself is only half the battle

The car wasnt built for the "back yard mechanic". The V12 is a marvel and not overly complicated. They were built for balance. It doesnt "All go bad", if it shuts down one side...its designed to operate that way if sumthin goes wrong.

Maintenance nightmare to someone who bought a car they couldnt afford to own....just like any other car, when its owners try to step beyond their means.

Its not like they break down more often..its just that "normal" ish costs hella to fix. Thats the price you pay for owning a high end car...its not an E30 or a civic (no offence to those E30 owners...I hope to be one soon!)

Ive got an 8 series down in my garage (right now )that ive been restoring, because the previous owner was in over his head. He could afford to by the car iteslf, but turned it into a hack job when he found out how expensive parts are compared to the E36 he was driving. I couldve bought a nice used GS / LS Lexus with the money Ive spent just to get that 8 up to par.

The economy did the 8 project in...people who bought them as a bargain ruined them.

The 8er is unlike any BMW within 10yrs of its time and the NSX was the best that Honda had to offer.

NSX is nice, Ive driven them as well....but this comparison is Apples n Oranges. Like trying to decide if u want a pickup truck or a motorcyle....Based on looks alone

fawk it, I'd buy both cause theyre two different types of cars.

        • I say the 8 series, but my non-car sister said the NSX is prettier.

So boy who knows says 8 series, random girl says NSX.

          Decide who you're appealing to.

            • Drift girl, you're right. I've never owned one and I pulled just about all of what I said from what I've read and from what I've heard from local 8 owners. Sorry if I came off as a beligerent ass.

I think I'd take a 3.0CSL over the other big expensive and rare BMW coupes. I know a bastard that owns 2. Sadly, he refuses to adopt me.

that asscociation diminishes the 8's appeal...
Hatchbacks, wagons... It's NOT all the same. You want in? Don't get a mazda 3, get a mazda 6 wagon. Don't get a wrx get a legacy wagon. and theres a reason the A3 isn't called the A3 avant... Scion does not make a wagon it makes a weird van, but no wagons

                    Sincerely,

P.S. Is your tail a wagon?

                    • Driftgirl, how dare you mention Civics and E30s in the same sentence...

                      • iirc, The NSX was designed to basically be a civic on steroids. All the econonmy of a civic for the pleasure of daily driving, and a squeeze of the throttle would unleash the power within.

Fair enough the engineering in the suspension and chassis wasno comparison, but that was the main intent from a sales point of view.

Lots of people dont understand that. Everyone just assumes the NSX was hondas answer to the performance car market.

                          • Why the face palm?

Edit-- ok, I read what I wrote, It wasnt the intent from a sales perspective, otherwise people wouldnt have paid so much money for one.

Facepalm away, but you cand deny the ecconomy of an nsx compares to other performance cars.
