Yup. There was a very in depth review on ballistics gel and different hand gun calibers. The damage and stopping power were very close throughout the range of calibers.

Springfield, Glock, S&W, H&K, Beretta, etc, are all good brands.

I have a p22 handheld. It would do what it is intende to do if I ever needed to defend my family/home, and they are very accurate.

However, I have shot a semi-automatic AK-47 before.... man was that fun. Also, I have had the joy of unloading a 1947 Mauzer (sp?) used in combat. Pretty accurate and impressive gun for its age.

You're still questioned like a mofo no matter who you are or what rank/title you hold in the US as well. It's not a right to carry and just get away with the consequences.

HK SL8 converted to a G36c (legally)
LMT MRP CQB 6.8spc with a 16" barrel and usoptics sn will be converting this to a SBR (12" barrel)

I have a handgun hidden right outside of my bedroom so when i walk out of it i can grab it. Shotgun is hidden either in my car or the shop (work late in an industrial area next to a metal recyclers.....you can guess that meth heads are all over the place and i've had to walk out with the shotgun more than once to scare them away).

If you just want a range gun, something in the 9mm form would be good. 9mm is a widely used round and is easy to find for a good price. As for pistols, there are many in 9mm. Glock, Springfield, Beretta, CZ, and the list goes on.

If you ever talk to any enthusiast, there is always the caliber debate. Many thing the 9mm is underpowered, too fast, yadda yadda yadda. All it comes down to is shot placement. Even if you use a .380 LCP or a 10mm Glock, two in the chest and one in the head is going to have the same effect.

I have shot one, but I don't know much about them. I shot a .357 Magnum snub revolver, but that's it. I liked it.

I would use it mainly for going to the range with, but they way things are going around my town, it wouldn't be bad to have as a form of self-defense... I just hope I would never have to pull it out.

If you do plan on carrying it and using it for self defense, i would suggest going to a range and shooting ALL the handguns and different calibers that you are interested in. After doing this decide what is the biggest caliber within 9mm, .40cal, .45cal or even .357 that you are comfortable shooting and accurate with. Then think about the weight of the gun, how it fits in your hand and how it will fit on your body. You also need to consider price of ammo or whether you plan on packing yourself.

On top of all this don't forget that in most cases when you draw your weapon it will be close quarters, within 5ft i believe is the average and in most cases people are to hesitant to use their weapon or it is turned against them. If this will be used in your home and you have neighbours fairly close I would suggest getting a shotgun, you get maximum exposure (ie spread of pellets depending on what shell you use) plus the pellets don't travel nor penetrate nearly as far as an actual bullet.

Lots to consider, i would suggest going to a range, talking to the range master, and take some classes. Be as educated as you can about your weapon because it is that a weapon and you are more likely to hurt someone you didn't mean to.....like yourself.

LOL if you come to oregon ill take you shooting.....I've also got incendiary rounds those are always fun and I might be getting my Class III tax stamp so i can have a M203 grenade launcher lol....(you still only can use dummy rounds or gas)..... yes yes i know this would not fit any criteria, except for being able to say I got a newb tube
