  • Mercedes 190 questions

my friend is looking at an 89' 190 automatic trans, im about to leave out the door to look at it with him. I know I won't get answers now, but after looking at it, what are things to be careful of? repair costs are usually expensive with MB's, so how brutal is it? 120k miles, new injectors, plugs, wires, the normal tune up stuff. asking 2500, needs new struts, shocks, and mounts. Input? Thanks!

190's are quite cheap to repair parts wise if you do your own work. Use AutohausAz for parts, Also there is a million of them in junkyards, so it is pretty easy to mix and match parts. The auto transmissions can be problematic.. but if you don't drive it like a boy-racer, you should be ok.

Here is my daily, I love mine!

Rust in the jack points, the most common and sometimes the only spot rust forms. Not a huge deal, just letting you know.
Manual trans swap is fairly easy.
Timing chain never needs to be replaced. (Literally, my parts car has 437k and never had it replaced)
If ABS light is on, needs OVP relay, don't get scared.

Although it doesn't sound bad, I think $2500 is right in the high area, unless it's really clean. Post some pictures.
