  • Car Couples?

This is about as off topic as it gets but as a semi-long time lurker I figured I would post.

I was wondering how many of you all have either met your significant other through the car community or have entered the car community together? People always seem baffled that I am into it as much as my S/O. I always love hearing about how couples come together, and I think there are couples out there that are definitely in the scene.

So here's our on going story and why Stance Works is such a big part of our relationship: I started getting the car bug at the beginning of this summer and was making all of the wrong decisions and fast. I only knew of one guy (that happened to go to school with me) who was involved in the scene at all, but he was an ex of a girl I knew (and I was dating a pretty controlling guy at the time) so I kind of backed off on it. Finally, after I got swindled pretty bad on a set of Motegi's (what was I thinking), I decided it was time to shoot this kid a message. Turns out we live not only in the same apartment complex, but his room is directly over mine. We hung out and kept it friendly, but my now-ex decided he didn't want a male friend in my life, so we weren't allowed to text or be FB friends anymore. Here's where StanceWorks comes in: We would PM each other all day, every day and talk about build threads, what kind of wheels I should buy next, and how much we wished we could hang out again.

Long story short, ex and I amiably ended it and I ended up pursuing my friend/neighbor sometime after the dust had settled. He went to H2Oi and all I could think of was how much I wanted to be there, doing burn outs on the strip and yelling at the OCPD. When he came back we watched every single H2Oi after movie we could find. We've already booked our cabin for SOWO 15 and are making plans for H2Oi this year. I think stance, and cars in general, will be an integral part of our relationship as it is something we really enjoy doing together.

TL;DR- Met my current S/O through the car community; communicated in secret over Stance Works.

So... what's your Car Couple story?

    The happy couple

I met Chris through the Edition 38 forums.

A lot of people don't understand it.

He helped me find my Corrado, fixed it when I put diesel in it, haha, now we do all the shows together and go racing with our housemates fuel altered dragster.

Car couples are the best couples

Plus no other female would put up with the time he spends in the workshop, we are lucky to have each other!

I met my left hand when I was 8 or 9. I layed on the bathroom floor and rubbed my dick until I pissed everywhere. Scarlett Johandson has been everywhere with me and she even helps wrench on cars.

I met my wife because of my car.

She saw my Prelude parked at work (we worked together) and loved it, I took her for a ride in it on a curvy road, and from that night on she had a thing for me or something (which I still don't understand). Wound up dating 3 years later, and we drove the same car to and from our wedding.

          Does that count?

^ Dying ... You guys are lucky. My wife calls my cars the other women. I guess it doesn't help that I named both of them Bettie(brown Bettie - '64 Impala, and Black Bettie - '03 GTI).

@Lhotte -- That's awesome <3 I definitely know the feeling. We spend pretty much all the money we make on our cars (which isn't much since we are both in school). Lots of nights of eating taco bell and talking about what the next project is.

All the other responses here are making me die laughing. I got a message from my S/O (rightfullrudder on here) and he was like "Omg go look at your thread." I guess his car is kind of like his other woman, but we respect one another (even though all his money goes to her, but she can't even get over speed bumps so :P)

After dating two women I met via the car "scene" I will not do it again. Strong pass.

Glad to see it worked out for others.
But I'm sure we have all seen the "homie hoppers" at the local meets.

"homie hoppers" hahahaha I like that, here they are simply "car slags"

3 years later and we have a house, a barn with our cars in and a dinosaur. I'd like to think that means I am not a homie hopper

I think if you've dated more than 3 friends in the same circle you enter the hopper category...

More than 2 is pretty much "entry" fee. Even 2 by themselves is bad enough.

I meant to say 3 or more. 2 could be an innocent change up or there could be time in between that could keep you out of the "hopper" category. I've always thought it was a bit odd to date friends exes. Once you've dated my friend you're pretty much non existent as a woman in my mind. You might as well be another dude, or in the 'friends sister" category at that point(I have a sister so in my mind all my friends sisters are off limits).

There's plenty of fish in the sea and me and all my friends are so similar if it didn't work out with them for some reason it won't work for me either. That and no woman is worth beef/drama between you and your friends.

Unless maybe if she's super hot and it's that one guy in the circle that you have a slight rivalry with or give each other shit. Every circle has these type "friendships"... Then I might consider a hit and quit just to rub it in his face... But that was high school shit. I'm too old and lazy for all that now.
