Get a pool treatment kit with chlorine and test kits. Get one of those fun auto pool cleaners and clean out the filter areas every so often. That's what we did with ours and it was sparkly clean.

      awesome.

that's the plan so far. i skimmed it all yesterday, cleaned the skimmer filters, dropped a hockey puck of chlorine in a floater, and it was world's better. our pool guy fails for not having it ready yet

We had one for a little bit. All he did was skim the leaves and shit off the top and make sure all the pumps were running. Really pointless so one day we asked that he show us how to check the pumps and let him go the next day

I was expecting a game of pool, you know, the one with the balls, and the stick.

I was thinking along the lines of "anyone a pool guy, you know someone who enjoys swimming pools," but I was wrong.

              Clearly.

I've been maintaining my pool since i was 12, lol, my pops was like fuck this you do it.

Its all pH balance, and adequate chlorine. In order for chlorine not to evaporate out of the water, the water needs to be at a certain pH level, anywhere from 7.2 to 7.8, so slightly basic. You also dont want to give it too much chlorine all at once as it degrades the plastics in the pump system.

You should buy one of those home testing kits, kmart and walmart has them, and just follow the directions.
