  • To Buy, Or Not To Buy??? That Is The Question......

Okay so many of you may know that I picked up another 240 coupe here recently for $400.

Anyways I'm planning on starting work on it here when I get my insurance check from the e46. Part of the deal for having the check made out to us was we have to show them a picture of the e46 fixed... My original plan was to get a quote at the dealership, then take the car to a cheap place and get the front and rear fixed and the whole car repainted. I crunched the numbers and I could have done that. The stealership is pretty outrageous lulz.

But now the body damage and zipties have actually grown on me. It gives it alot of character in my opinion..

Anyways I want to turn the 240 into my drift slut project. All i'm basically diong to it is swapping the engine, It has a KA24E and I want to swap in a KA24DE, slam it, weld the differential, and put some sick wheels on it. I found a KA24DE already rebuilt for another $400(could probably get it for a little less), And some Megan track coilovers are like $850 from enjukuracing.com. I can get the diff welded for free. and then wheels and misc suspension goodies along the way(bushings, sways, etc)

    The question is...

Should I use the leftover money to swap the engine and get some colovers?

Or buy these baller ass wheels........? And save up a couple more paychecks for the coilovers and KA

    mmmm decisions, decisions, desicions...

well I wouldn't put them on until I had coilovers, And I wouldn't be able to fit them without a serious fender roll/pull and plenty of stretch

The point I'm trying to decide on is whether or not I should scoop these up before they get gone or not.

I've see SSRs on there all the time, unless it's the same ones. Once you get those wheels you're going to need to plan to rebuild them which will take more monies. At least have it sitting pretty first. How long would it take you to move from wheels to coils or vice versa

Depends on how cheap I can get my rear fixed for. If I can save alot of money i may be able to get those and coilovers at the same time....if that hints at how expensive the dealership quote was

I was thinking about this....but i'm hesitant about if it didn't work. Plus I kinda need my rear fixed since my trunk leaks now lol

Get it fixed for cheap, and use the extra cash for the drift slut 240. That seems like the best way to go about this. I would also do low before wheels. But that is just me.

Forgot to mention, I'll also have to go 5-lug. So i'll have to pick up 2 front converion hubs and 2 rear hubs from an S14 and then 4 new rotors(or used ) That's another $400 give or take a few bucks...

dont go KA. Do Redtop SR20det swap, Less of a hassle. you're gonna regret going KA if you do.
then get coilovers and sell the KA to get wheels

Just out of curiosity... how is an SR swap lesss of a hassle? It's a hell of alot cheaper that's for sure lol. and for the drift events around us, power is not a big requirement. Just wondering....

I mean that SRs are more dependable. I've had several friends with KA24s and they suck. One of my friends had 2 KA24s and they both shat on him. He recently just swapped over to an SR20 (finally)

I gotcha. Always good to hear multiple opinions on engines. KA is def the cheapest. SR is pretty pricey but parts are EVERYWHERE. I've also been thinking about CA18DET. Iron block, better head flow design than SR, lightest, internals are good to like 300hp without needing to be upgraded, you can get parts from a pulsar, and performance upgrades are not AS abundant as the SR, but if you know where to look you can find them without a problem. And its still cheap. Another thing I like about them is they are different. You don't see them as much as the SR.

yea SR parts are everywhere and can sometimes be expensive but last almost forever ha. CA18DET, you hardly see those lol. I think the CA18DET has stronger torque, not sure though. havent researched/heard much on those so I cant really tell you anything about it.
