  • Going to Japan - advice?

Ok, so it's settled, I'm going to Japan in August for 3 weeks and I'm looking for a list of do's and don'ts - any and all advice would be appreciated.
I know there have been some threads on this in the past, but I thought I'd get a fresh perspective: i.e can anyone recommend based on their trip where to stay and places to see and go.
Looking for a good mix of automotive adventures, night life (entertainment and clubs etc) as well as day time activities like sight seeing etc.

    Cheers!

Don't be a gaijin and remember when to wear your wabaki.

    On a serious note though:
    1. Don't stand in walkways to take pictures
    2. Try speaking japanese, show respect for the language when looking for help
    3. The police are very polite and are willing to help anyone
    4. Don't act like an idiot
    5. Avoid tourist traps(harajuku and other outlying Tokyo areas) if you have money, there is so much cool shit that you will spend it all without actually experiencing anything
    6. Bath houses are the shit, just make sure you're comfortable with yourself first
    7. Go urban exploring, experience life like a local instead of as a tourist, if you have someone who can translate, ask the locals whats cool in town
    8. Don't be on your phone 24/7 like every other american. It's disrespectful.
    9. Go fishing inside of a restaurant. Best fucking thing ever. You get to catch your own fish inside of a pond/large tank inside of a restaurant and it's usually cheaper than if you bought it normally(it's still pretty pricy though). Even if you don't catch anything, it's fun to hang out with friends and family doing strange ass shit like that
    10. If in the tokyo area, visit foot town around the tower and check out the mori tower at night. Roppongi is amazing at night too. Just watch out for drunk tourists making asses of themselves.

If you get sick, the word "health" on a building does not mean what you think it means.
