And what about insurance for modified cars?

I mean, here in Brazil, you can "legitimate" some mods like ride height, HIDs, turbo, etc.
On the car ID there will be the following: "High Intensity Discharge lamps, New Headlight Clearance: X cms, Turbocharged Engine", and so on.

However, there is NO insurance company that will ensure a car like this. So, you have to choose either to hide from cops or not to have insurance. I made my choice, and been riding "illegally" for three years now.

How does it work in the US?

Does the insurance check your car? I can go online purchase insurance and add a car in less than 10minutes and print a proof of insurance on the spot. Insurance don't cover MODS but they will insure a car with turbos/etc etc.

Whats the policy with no insurance in Brazil? Do they tow your car or just a ticket?

I know that my insurance (AAA) covers anything bolted on to the car.
Like when some dumbass hit me in a parking lot and ripped my bumper off and my intake in half, my intake was covered and I got a brand spankin' new one.

The insurance company is going to check your car before insuring it, unless it is brand new. And some companies check the cars every year, in order to know if it has been modded (not the case of mine, haha)

There is NO policy to cars without insurance in Brazil, especially because less than 40% of them are insured. Luxury, Working cars, cabs, trucks, are examples of cars that are usually not insured.

As I said before, I chose to run from the cops instead of not having insurance. And, if you get hitted/hit your insured modded car, the company won't cover any mod, and you might get your protection lifted, like "we covered a OEM car, not this. You're on your own, now." Yeah, this is ridiculous, I know. But we hope it is going to change soon.

That really sucks ! So if you get pulled over with no insurance do they just ticket you and you pay ? Or do they take your car because it has no insurance?

Insurance in the US will cover modifications if its declared when you apply for it, obviously they charge you more since your raising the value of the vehicle. From what i remember internal engine modifications are not covered (ie. rods pistons valves).

Most Miami-Dade cops don't even know what the laws are, they just know to check hondas for illegal engine swaps. As far as stance, cops have looked at the car a bit puzzled but they've never mentioned anything. We do have a minimum headlight height of 22 inches and the chassis cant be below the bottom of the rim. They dont fuck with tints since is so damn hot over hear, but i've gotten shit for it in broward. The US is actually pretty relaxed on what they deem road worthy compared to other countries.

This may be a rumor but someone told me that one way they check for ride height is to roll a tennis ball under the car, but a lot of stock high end cars will fail that, so i think its bullshit.

Them cops don't know if your car is insured or not. And, even if it is not, they can't do nothing, because it is not mandatory.
They usually do like: check license plates, check if the taxes are paid, and if the car has no fines due. If any of these go wrong, the car will be aprehended.

And how much does the insurance costs keep around? My car is worth R$25.000,00, and I pay R$900,00 annually, full coverage. It is too different on the US?

it varies with age and car. For example me for my car is about $1,200 a year. My mother for a $50K car pays about the same.
