lies. i paid $1700 for mine, 2 years ago almost. i replaced a trans in it after the first year. that was the most costly thing i've done. a whopping $300 shipped from CT. and $300 more to install it. considering insurance is $16/month, and it gets decent gas mileage, i don't consider it to be expensive.

i say do it. coming from a fellow 240sx/E30 owner.

If you want one, do it. Be aware that cabbys have some specific parts that make some mods more expensive, or at least, fewer options. Also, heavier and less stiff, but thats generally the case with convertibles
