  • Trip to California - what to do ?

Well, this may seem awkward, but I'm from Norway and going on vacation to the US this summer, so I'm looking for some things to see/do when it comes to car/motorcycle shows, racetracks with car renthal maybe, races, and so on? basically anything that will keep a petrolhead amused thought I'd ask here for some real travel tips!

Better be something good, because I'm missing Gatebil(clicky) for this trip

Haven't planned that much yet, but we're going to LA, San Fransisco, Grand Canyon and Vegas

I recommend driving up/down PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) between LA and SF. Great view. Great drive. It'll take a full day with stops in between. I recommend stopping at Ragged Point along the way.

Drive the posted speed limit unless you want a ticket, CHP on watch especially in Cali from the stretch from Vegas

Laguna Seca and Sonoma Raceway (Infineon) both have performance driving schools. Sonoma uses audis, evos, the fastest open wheel racer you can rent in the world and R8s. Laguna Secca uses an all mazda line up with some formula mazda type open wheel racer.

Hearst Castle is another good stop along the coast, it's a massive mansion that now belongs to the city I believe and has tours everyday. Monterrey Bay Aquarium has a lot of good specimens unique to the region.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me as I would be happy to help.

Thanks a lot for the advices guys! looking forward to this trip!
(expensive, though.. I could've bought coilovers, full m-tech, new big turbo&intercooler, remap, injectors, clutch and manual gearbox for my bmw (e39 530d) for the same money )

do you know if there are any age restricts on renthal cars in the US? When we went to Spain last summer, the renthal car company wouldn't rent cars to people under 20 or something..

I believe the limit is 25 with most car rental places if everyone is under that. If you have one person over 25 the rest can be younger.

I'm 23 and have rented a few cars before, when I was younger too. Rented a u-haul on Saturday actually.
