i'm not having a go at people mourning the loss, let that be clear

i'm just stipulating that people like Whinehouse who was also an idol to a lot, maybe even more people, and that is was ok to post memes and stuff, and now because he is a petrol head, he cannot be touched?

and if you don't get why that is in my sig, discussion ends here

they were shitty movies, but like many on here i've seen them too, because car guy

I don't usually wander into off topic, but i HAD to find a place to talk through my feelings

I think i speak for the majority here when i say that the minute I realized the news was true I was absolutely beyond fucking devastated.. i have never experienced the death of anyone i knew (thank god) but this shit hit me like a fucking freight train, the only solace i have is that I was surrounded by all my car friends in our shop at the time which helped to facilitate the pain..

BUT I CAN SAY WITHOUT A DOUBT I COULD NEVER BE PROUDER TO CALL MYSELF A MEMBER OF THE CAR COMMUNITY- the way EVERY SINGLE person involved in the scene has come together to mourn his loss and pray for his family is beyond fucking incredible, his death has brought us all closer together, spawning gatherings all across the country and just letting the fucking nostalgia pour out by cherishing and sharing with each other our favorite FnF quotes or moments across social media everywhere...

the highlight of my week is a tribute cruise we have here in chi town on saturday, i will most likely lose my shit and tear up like a 3 year old when i see over 600 cars show up just to pay respect to the man that touched all our hearts..

in a few days normal society will forget and move on.. my guess is that the car community will genuinely mourn his loss for months or even years to come..

ill let Tyrese take it home:

Father thank you for the gathering of friends, Father we give thanks for all the choices we’ve made because that’s what makes us who we are, let us forever cherish the loved ones we’ve lost along the way; and most of all thank you for fast cars!

I love you all, rest in peace paulie

What did amy winehouse share with the automotive community? how did she die? what charities did she start?

Sure she donated to charities, Paul actually started a charity. She made good music and helped make people "aware" of diseases, like many other charities and stars. Paul set out with an idea to start to make a difference and actually helped, not just fund others. She was a drug and alcohol addict, and basically killed herself doing what she loved. Paul was taken in a tragic accident doing what he loved.

The mere fact that you think Amy Winehouse was loved by more people, and that its unfair to mock her drug abuse makes me believe you aren't the car guy you believe yourself to be. I haven't always seen eye to eye with you're posts, I now know why.

im i the only one completely baffled by the posts in this thread?

          a) i had no idea he was a car guy
          b) i had no idea about his charity work
          c) i had no idea anyone actually liked FF movies, or was inspired by them or him

i definitely have respect for dead people and would never make fun of them, well to a certain degree, i mean who didnt aprec the OBL memes!?

but the only thought that came to mind was "that sucks, ironic, but sucks"
is this an age thing? im 33 now and was very embarassed when the movies came out, esp having owned alot of hondas by that point.
anyone else even slighty surprised by all of the public outcry? just wondering, and no disrespect meant

wow, i am speaking that incoherently???

            all i'm saying is

why was it ok to mock the dead of human being A, and not the dead of human being B?

regardless of who they were or what they did for humanity

p i see the point you are trying to make, seems like your trying to stir shit though. What is the point in posting such thing which i'm you know would create talk in a thread that is purely to respect the memory of a great man who made a large impact on the large majority of the car world.

Hell i can't even think of single song amy whitehouse sung, If she is bigger than Paul then she must have flown right over my head.

The thing with Amy Winehouse is she was a drug addict that was taken by her own stupidity. Another "idol" would be Whitney Houston. Bitch was a crack head. Michael Jackson? An old white woman who touched little boys inappropriately. There were scores of people crying for these degenerates who happened to make good music at some point in their tragic lives. Hell, there's still crying for MJ. Oxer stated the difference pretty clearly. Paul actively participated in charity work as opposed to just giving money or flying to different parts of the world to adopt kids instead of adopting kids who need it just as bad in their home country (a jab at Brangelina in case it wasn't picked up on ).

The majority of the retaliation is due to the fact that this thread was made to commemerate a great man, not post memes about his death.

I hope they will honour him well in the 7th movie...

I'm nearly 34 and while I didn't break down over the news, it definitely was a shock to me and I'm sad that he's gone. As others have said it's one of the few celebrity deaths where I feel sad because of a more personal connection, through the F&F movies and knowing that he was a fellow car nut.

I don't feel much shame in telling people I know (even non-car people) that I like the F&F movies. Sure they're glorified and non-realistic, but they are fun, packed with action, and entertaining. Whenever a new one comes out there's always a group of people in my local clubs ready to do a group meet on opening night, even the ones that are our age and have seen them all from the start. Lots of us aren't even your stereo-typical "car guy" always out in the garage, all our spare time working on cars. Hell I've got a kid which eats up most of my spare time and I'm in marketing for a software company - other than driving my car the only other thing I do is read about automotive stuff, which makes me feel very atypical from what most people on here are like.

Note - I'm just responding, I'm not trying to imply you're odd for not feeling affected by PW's passing.
Steve - now in San Diego!

i can still feel a wave of sadness come over me everytime i think of his death. I'm based in south africa and FnF had a big impact on our scene, its what started the new wave of the scene off. it made imports popular. it made me want an EG that could fuck around under trucks and shit. Paul was the "buster" who wasnt as cool to begin with but drew me in because he always seemed genuinely into the role he was playing (suppose it now makes sense seeing as though he was a car guy). although the movies can be farfecthed at times, i feel that Paul and the rest of the crew had a big part to play in the automotive scene on a global scale - and that is the mark of a legend.

Im saddened by his passing and pray that he got granted a high place in heaven, with all the cars he could dream of. RIP Brian Earl Spilner

i get what p78 was saying and i kind of understand his point of view but i fully go with oxers point.

why we feel more connected to paul than we do to winehouse needs no comment. he was one of us. a guy going nuts about cars. the fine distinction was only on the paychecks. though we never met him, we grew with him through the movies. maybe not the best example but i remember playing gta v at the end of the story when i had to decide which way i would go. i played all three options and at the end it was pretty sad (not even as much as i am about the loss of paul) seeing trevor or michael dying because i grew with these motherfuckers through the game. as i said not the best example but tells it in a transferred sense.
                                I drive what I want, and what I ain't drivin' I don't want...
