  • Polished wheels on a car that stays outdoors?

So I've got plans for some wheels, just finishing up the suspension components on the car before I make a purchase. My car stays outside, and I had a friend tell me it wouldn't be a good idea to keep polished wheels outside as they will be hard to keep clean and will need to be repolished often.

    Thoughts?

They will be a pain in the ass to keep polished. You have 2 options. Option 1, clear over them. wont be quite as polished, but will last a little longer. Option 2, chrome. Chrome still needs polishing, but holds up a little better then raw alloy.

Do a color on the faces, chrome the lips, and anodize the bolts.

        It sucks.

Plan on polishing them every time you wash the car. Sealing them with a coat of good wax helps a great deal.

You'll need to hand polish them once a week, with a cloth and some alloy polish. should not take much longer than 20mins.

Thanks for the advice fellas. Reconsidering the whole polished wheel thing now... My car gets hit by sprinklers in my drive way too. We shall see.

My car is outside every day and night, and I don't have many issues. I wash my car once a week, and hit the lips with some aluminum polish every other wash. Doesn't take long if you keep up with them.

I wouldn't even think of running my wheels in our snowy, salty, slushy winters up here, though. That's what the stockers are for.
