If you can tie the MAC address to the individual/individuals, that should be enough to warrant looking into. The MAC address is physical, so it's not like they can hide behind a proxy or anything. The only way they could hide is by using a different computer or swapping network cards. I would just make sure that the sites where this rival is known to be on are well aware of how this rival has operated in the past and to be aware of additional users being added to the member list from that MAC or other known MACs.
