Only thing I don't like about sandblasting is it pits the metal.

If I were painting any of those said objects, I would take a wire wheel to the rust spots, then sand everything with 80 grit paper, then 180 grit paper. Then clean with wax and grease remover and get high painting in a confined area with no ventilation.
