Yeah I never trusted using that little allen hole to remove the top bolts though lol.. It didnt work when I tried it years ago the allen just stripped
If you crack them while the car is on the ground its much easier as the weight of the car is pushing down on the top hat. If you do it correctly, maybe add a bit of wd40 or whatever the equivelent is in the us, it will come undone with no issues.

Ah never thought of loosening them while the car is on the ground. idk Ive swapped so many struts that I forget how I usually do it. lol On my buddys civics shitty struts we just clamped the shaft and spun off the bolts lol but with my zero clearances I prefer using an air gun just because
