The 18-55 (your stock lens) is actually a great lens for automotive stuff. I'd also recommend picking up a 50 1.8 its only 100 bucks and its a fantastic lens.

Probably because I'm married with a kid on the way. If you met me you would think the exact opposite, that I'm a lot older than I look.

Definitely mess around with the camera some more, you'd be surprised what you can do with the kit stuff. Hell I don't use my kit lens to its full potential.
