I friend of mine is a cop, and all he will carry is a 1911. The department he works for issues Glock .40 cal's, but he would still rather the extra weight of the 1911 in .45 cal. Not to mention a 230 grain bullet at 860 fts does serious damage.

yeah, when the 1911 .45 hits something, it stops them.

when i was using a 9mm beretta doing security in japan, they warned us that the the 9mm goes through targets, so, we had to watch out what was behind who ever we were shooting at. the .45 acp doesn't have that same tendacy, since it tumbles more when it hits, while the 9mm rounds we used didn't tumble

Exactly and any general caliber bullet can do that just fine. There was a test comparing all the calibers through ballistics gel and the damage/stopping power was VERY close comparatively.
