    From those requirements:
    -E46 3-series
    -E39 5-series
-Evo 8 or 9 (AWD, but same idea)
-I detest Subarus so nevermind that suggestion
-IS300 (duh, JZ, four doors, and 6-speed)

Most of these are closer to the $10k range, but you get what you pay for.

What are other choices? I asked above and got no response lol.
$6k makes it more difficult. E36 sedans are more common for that price range and fill the requirements. SC300's are just like the 240SX's Toyota-made cousin, and a lesser Supra if you will. They're hard to find in good shape with a 5-speed, but they're out there. A 300ZX-TT is a better option in my eyes- more aftermarket support and better made.

No BMWs. That'd be going backwards. Evo prices are stupid. We've had that discussion as well.

Auto-manual swaps are easily (somewhat) done.

Easy to work on. 300zx loses right there.

I want a car I can buy cheap and fix. I don't want a car that's complete already.

              Interesting - Cheap - Reliable

              Pick two.

Believe me. GS300's and SC300's are not any easier to work on than any of the other choices.

                Yo.
I'm not expecting it to be cheap. Initial purchase for a high mileage SC/GS300 is in the $4000 or less range. Freshen the engine up or purchase an extra engine to build on the side and then purchase suspension and stuff. That's where the cheap disappears. I just don't want to spend $12k on someone's completed project.

They may not be any easier, but that engine is. Plus the aftermarket is huge and cheap as well. Tons of parts for everything.
