Kelly, you have multiple people telling you it's a bad idea. Not just a few ball busters, but people who have genuine experience with them. Even Mike B. said it was terrible.

We aren't trying to be assholes, we are genuinely concerned. Look up shift linkages, transmissions, and turbo problems from them if you don't believe me.

I haven't owned one, but I can gladly give you testimony from no less than 5 techs with years of VAG experience, and one with more extensive knowledge than your average tech (Craig took the all-Audi supplemental training after tech school).

They will all tell you you're crazy. And these are the guys that get PAID to work on them.

I think you should get a vehicle that you would not be attached to and have any interest on modding, but is also reliable. Then you can just finish school with a reliable car that you haven't poured money into and haven't gotten into a project state when the right rig comes your way.
