Very true. Apparently the GM transmissions have the same bolt pattern for the driveshaft as Mercedes does, so that's a bonus. I need to do some research before I dive into it though. The majority of people who own older Mercedes' are so old that they don't use the internet, so theres not a ton of info on anything.

What model do you have? There's a guy on here somewhere with an Ls1 swap in an old Merc.

W108 - 280SE with the 4.5L V8. Pretty much anything mid 60s to late 70s applies though. The W108 and W114/115 are very very similar platforms.

By the way, would it be a terrible decision to strip the paint of a car and go over it with a few layers of spray paint then apply clear coat? Maybe then wetsand and buff it. How would that turn out?
