I think I have an auto tensioner cos I've read other owners replacing them. Also make sure your tension is good. If it is an auto-tensioner it could be wearing out or its froze up (happens a lot more than you would think, ran into this a few times when I was working in the shop). If its not that style and there is a threaded rod or something (that's how mine are) you could try tightening it up a little to see what that gets you.

heres another reason why we should kill ourselves. when i was in ocean city last month, my friend had his stock civic with him and we were driving around. some guy came up to us and was 100 percent serious when he said "woah bro, sweet civic. you should add a vtec bro"
