Just priced out a system for my car. Alpine Type-R subs are on sale right now so I'm looking to pick up one of those. 10" Type R, Alpine 500 watt amp, ported box, wiring, Rockford components for my front doors, and some other odds and ends for just under $550. Not bad.
Hopefully the Type-R's stay on sale for a little bit, otherwise I'll go with a Type-S since it will handle the same power.

The amp pushes 500 Watts x1 channel at 2 ohms. Both Type-R and Type-S can be had with dual 4 ohm voice coils. I can wire the voice coils in parallel so the load is 2 ohms and whala, I'll have my 500 watts.
