07 was the first year of turbo on the S/JCW

Yup, he's right 06 was the last year of the first gen cars with the 1.6 SC Chrysler/BMW engine. In 07 they switched over to the 1.6 Turbo Prince (Peugeot) engines and new bodystyle.

by 06 all the kinks were worked out and you didn't have any of the early issues that they inevitably had when first starting out. Stronger gearbox, better gear ratios, slightly more power, facelift exterior enhancements, etc.

The SC engines were awesome. Toss an aftermarket pulley on the SC and instant power increase for cheap.

It's entirely possible...many schools pump their food with things to keep students "healthy". Ours was the same way.
