On a whim I asked a local metal shop (I know the owners, really cool people, they build dirt and asphalt race cars) if they had the equipment to properly re-drill wheels. To my delight, they said it wouldn't be a problem, even if they have to fill the holes and re-drill them out. I asked how much it would be, the guy laughed and said he would just do it as a favor.

This changes the game for me.

Time to find some wheels that are easily re-drillable. As dumb as it sounds, I really want some 17" staggered style 5's. I think a simple mesh wheel would be fantastic on my car.

Seeing as staggered 17s are pretty rare I'd say that's not going to happen. And for the same price you could get some RSs. You'll need to refinish them regardless.
