  • Valve Cover Creations

A place where anyone can post valve covers they are currently creating, the beginning to the end pics are encouraged.

Here is one currently, from when I bought it shaved and after some more cleaning and primer... to where it sits today awaiting more paint and then the final layers of sparklespangle and some clear coats.

Its for a 4G63 from 90-99 in case anyone was not sure.

Not happy with the lines, redo...

EDIT: Also if you can include as much info as possible about what type of materials used.

This has dupli-color high temp white base and regular indoor/outdoor red and black, and then krylon flourecent yellow. Next should be a effex mid coat and a 2 part auto clear coat finish.

I made a thread like this on PreludePower a while ago.

I'll post some of the covers I've done over the years.

My current one, flip-flop purple/blue/gold with a polished/cut belt cover and engine-turned letters and smoothed out holes

Rising Sun valve cover I did a number of years ago, still have it on the wall in the garage

My old Accord's valve cover with the 70's bottom-fade and metal flake

Stripped, bare aluminum with polished letters

I want to do this to my valve cover, but knowing me, I'll probably fuck something up. Are these mods easy to do?

yeah very! Well unless your car has about 100 million other parts to remove before the valve cover can come out! And of course v8's have two sooo...... yeahhhhhhh

Stupid easy if you can spray paint.

            You need:

            -Wax & Grease remover
-220/320/600-gritSandpaper (if you have sanding to do)
            -High temp engine primer
-High temp engine paint of your choice

Thats mine. Two part urethane on the strut bar, CAI, and valve cover. I never got around to sanding back the raised letters and polishing them.

Very nice fella's, and as for the sanding set, if you can help it dont go from 320 right to 600, its to larg of a grit change and you wont get all the 320 sanding lines out without alot, and I mean alot of sanding. Do something like 400, and realisticly you dont need to go much finer then a wet 400 right before paint, itll make it smooth.

Use aircraft stripper, (but please use that in a WELL vented area, that stuff will make you dizzy real quick), or have it blasted, then when all the paint is off go over all of it with 320 or so, a few layers of some good primer, wet sand that with 400, clean it with wax and grease remover, tape off any areas you dont want painted, and get a tack cloth to wipe any and all dirt or fuzzies before you spray, and paint on top of that.

@ mommyslittlemonster: What high temp paint did you use on that first cover? Never seen any high heat with the flip flop effect? It looks great!

Had to redo the yellow and the red, redo some lines and now its all ready for a color sand, prep, and then onto final clear coats.
