Yeah those fees suck compared to Streeter and he's always been super quick with replying and shipping in my experience. $250 will pretty much double your costs if you're getting a cheap wheels and therefore defeating the purpose

I use Import Monster coz it has an "Estimate Cost" button, so you can click it and type in the price and shipping method and location and it will give you a pretty good estimate of how much it will cost. Not to mention easy YJ navigation and cheap container postage.
I only use estimate for expensive items when I'm on a tight budget though. Atm I just have a tab with him and I put a $k or so when it gets to around $2k
