no joke, ive been on the 5 up in that area... not a place to fuck around with oil pans.

edit: i just realized you were talking about the drive to bimmerfest... the 5 from norcal till the grapevine isnt anything crazy... they keep that road in pretty good shape. but once you hit the grapevine, good luck. its like the socal car graveyard. overheating, pot holes, debris, slow cars, fast cars, freight trucks and cops. not a good formula for riding hard. especially high...

No, In most cases it isn't required if the loan amount is less than 80% of the property value.
You just end up paying a little more interest.
