  • yo any irl gearheads in here? can i throw a 383 block on my (originally 350) LT1 without issue?

would it be bolt on? and would it cause problems with my stock ECM?

    Comment

    • the 383 came out of a 69 el camino.

my current block is a 1994, so would i have to get different engine mounts, headers, would my T-56 still bolt up to it?

      • pretty sure it wouldnt work...

        • Headers will fit, use lt1 gaskets. Mounts should be the same. Compression is slightly different. 10.25 for the l48 and 10.4 for the lt1, I think. You might run into problems with the ecm. Iirc the l48 was a 350, not a 383. I would call an engine rebuild shop and ask them. Maybe a Corvette specific shop could give you specs on both

thnx m8, the ecm issue is enough for me to ditch the idea.

the 383 wasnt original to the camino, thats just what it was dropped in before it was pulled.

            • Heads won't work either, cooling ports are way off. Will bolt up but you will end up with a worse motor than you started with.

              • Sorry I didn't have better news to give man haha, just the lt1 is pretty generation specific. I wanted to run lt1 top end on my l98 in the firebird but just gave up

                • no prob dude, better to know now than after i bought it.

lt1's are kind of stupid engines but i got mine before I really knew what i was doing, so its where I'm at

and i'm still too cheap to upgrad to ls. would have to change enough crap to make it a pain in the ass

                  • Call a junkyard man. They can order in whole engines and could probably get you a drop in lt1

                        • but yeah i already looked into junkyards, its gonna be $1500 for a decent engine

craigslist has been much better, best deal so far is a complete engine with 89k on it for $600

                          • As much as I **** to say it, some brand new engines don't even last that long haha. Saw a Jeep with 13,000 miles with a half dollar sized hole in the block haha.
