Get a cheap beater daily if you can afford to put the Porsche out of harm's way. Without a shop and a place to wrench, it's hard driving an older car every day, especially when they need constant attention.

I'm thinking exactly the same. Just putting the Porsche somewhere and buying a cheap every day car, that is probably the best decision to make. I'm unsure if the boys would let me borrow shop space down in Costa Mesa, but I might ask. Then it's just a matter of getting down there and wrenching on it.

I'd love to attempt my own top end rebuild. Rebuild the heads etc, it'd probably end up getting upgraded heads and the rabbit hole we all love to fall down.

My biggest problem is honestly my fault. Since I've graduated, I've never had a roommate to split rent. When my ex lived with me, I handled all of our rent/utilites since she wasn't making nearly as much money as I do. When I started working out here, all of my money that didn't go towards getting ODB ready for SoWo was spent getting myself out of the financial hole I'd dug after being unemployed for 4 months.

At least I'm saving a little money with the VW gone.

I'm in very similar boat. Having not worked for a bit and then having the wedding costs as well as the Porsche purchase, I put myself into a bit of a hole financially. Hopefully the next six months will go fine and I'll be able to put enough away to not only sort all debt out, but also play cars still.

If no, I'd ask the Costa Mesa guys if you could pull the motor at their place, then store the car somewhere close by. That way you're not taking up too much space at the shop, and it won't be kept un-secured in their parking lot.
