Yeah I pretty much agree with all of this.Most likely not going to get the BMW because doesn't meet any of the criteria except cool and power.

The list in order to most want to least is something like

wrx (06-07)
legacy gt (05-08 iirc)
Forester xt (05-08 iirc)
focus st
mazdaspeed3
fiesta st
tl (04-08 iirc)
tsx (04-08 iirc)
civic si sedan of course (06-11 iirc)
vw tdi.....or gti

Need to find out more about the countrymen, but its growing on me.
Found some decent upgrades that can make it pretty zippy.


Car has to be fun to drive, kinda quick, have a plethora of upgrades, easy to work on, reliable, good on gas, tech upgrades welcome.

Automatics need not apply.

Budget will determine what the final 5 will be. I tried hunting down a clean TSX or a TL with a 6-speed before I pulled the trigger on my Accord, it was slim pickings.

Another thing to consider: The prices of the ST's will plummet when the RS is released here and all the fanboys trade in.

One thing I will tell you, the earlier Civic Si's are prone to serious transmission issues. Two or three local guys have munched through their OE transmissions once already, synchros don't hold up worth a fuck and the shafts are a bit weak. '08+ are the better ones from what I've heard.

The sad thing is that I'm dead serious.

You used to buy a Subaru because it was different, and you could kick ass in the snow. Now they look like a Toyota, with the same drive train (minus engine) that was used for damn near a decade. While the new engine is neat, I'm disappointed that with direct injection, new turbo (I think twin scroll, ball bearing) new intake and exhaust, it makes nearly the same power as the WRX did in 08.

Yeah that's a good point about the ST's.

I think I'm going to wait until the mid winter anyways just because prices drop a shit ton. I'll still keep my eye out though.

I can't justify that. that 35K would be a great down payment on a house. Plus I'm the worst kind of person to own one of those. I don't even use the STI now.
