Have you considered looking into wrecked cars at auction for a complete setup? That's the cheapest way to get the most if you can find a dealer with access. Then then you can sell off the leftover crap and even earn some money back...

Wrecked cars is the best way to do it

I can pick up a smash Holden ute for like $2k and that would hae the motor, box, ecu and any other bits I might need.

Then I can also sell off the random parts and even more reduce the cost of the LS conversion

Thats why half the cunts in drift in Aus are running LS1, because they are so damn cheap and plentiful in Aus.
